🧶 Materials Needed:

• Worsted weight cotton yarn in red, white, and navy blue
• Crochet hook: 4.0 mm or 4.5 mm
• Yarn needle & scissors

🇺🇸 Patriotic Star Coaster – Crochet Pattern

Festive red, white, and blue DIY for Independence Day

🪢 Part 1: Star Appliqué (Make 1)

With navy blue yarn:

Round 1:

• Make a magic ring, ch 2 (counts as dc),
• Work 9 dc into ring, sl st to top of ch 2 to join. (10 dc)

Round 2:

• (Ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next, hdc in next, dc in last ch),
  skip 1 st, sl st in next) — repeat 5 times to form 5 star points.
• Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

You should have a flat 5-point star.

🧶 Part 2: Round Coaster Base

With white yarn:

1:

• Magic ring, ch 1, work 10 sc into ring, sl st to join. (10 sts)

2:

• Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, sl st to join. (20 sts)

3:

• Ch 1, (1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next) repeat around. (30 sts)

4:

• (1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next) repeat around. (40 sts)

5:

• (1 sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next) repeat around. (50 sts)

Switch to red yarn:

(Border):

• Sc in each st around. Optional: Do a reverse single crochet (crab stitch) for a ridged edge.
• Sl st to join, fasten off and weave in ends.

🧵 Assembly:

• Using the long tail from the navy blue star, sew the star securely to the center of the coaster.
• Stitch around the points and center so it lies flat.

🎨 Customization Ideas:

• Add mini appliqué stars on top using white yarn.
